Welcome and thank you for visiting. Women across Borders is a platform where women's voices are heard, shared and utilized to motivate social change. We portray how women all around the world face similar obstacles in the aftermath of traumatic experiences they endured during their lifetimes.
Women across Borders was born out of the desire to raise awareness about issues women face and to ignite social change. Its founder, Stephanie Koehler, started interviewing female survivors of sexual violence in the United States, and her work was published on The Women's International Perspective. Hearing what many of the women had been through, she encountered similarities regardless of ethnic, cultural, socio-economic backgrounds, age or religious beliefs. This strenghtened her belief that through such shared experiences, women can unite and work together to achieve social change. In the spring of 2015, she took her campaign international and for the first time spoke with women across borders. She interviewed women in Bosnia Herzigovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Germany. To read the stories of these courageous women, click here.
Stephanie's vision is to grow this project into an international awareness campaign. With each interview conducted and each photograph taken, a story will be told and published. As she continues to document more stories, she hopes that soon there will be a traveling exhibit of images such as those featured on this site. A book might follow, and who knows, perhaps one day it will become a documentary to fight and raise awareness to sexual violence.
